What we do

Literacy Volunteers of Ocean County provides tutoring in Basic Literacy Skills and English for Speakers of Other Languages to adults in Ocean County. We are an accredited affiliate of ProLiteracy America, a non-profit organization that promotes literacy through a network of community volunteer programs. LVOC is funded by The Wish You Well Foundation, OceanFirst Foundation, other grants, local fundraising activities, and community donations. LVOC is a registered 501(c3) non-profit agency.

We offer one-to-one tutoring and small group language skills to adults needing help with their English literacy skills. Our volunteers are trained in the latest teaching strategies. Both one-to-one and small group sessions are presented in a pleasant, friendly manner. Students meet their tutors in private areas of libraries or other public buildings. Our goal is to help adult literacy students learn to listen, speak, read, and write English.
